That being said, this may be her weakest effort to date. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t some real gems here. “Shame” and “The Desperate Kingdom of Love”.
Even seventh time in, Polly’s got a cracker. Gone is the bordering-on coffee-table crossover zeal ‘n’ appeal which we still adored – and in comes a Kills-y, snarling PJ, ready to dethrone garage-rock in spectacularly sultry, sexy fashion. Yes, let’s admit it; foxiness doesn’t come more assuredly commanding than Polly Jean.
She’s a feisty thing, alright, but she’s dangerous – or, more specifically, she can spot danger. Fittingly to such urgency, songs are short and concentrated – that this is a lean record is not in question. It’s a beguiling display, drenched in much of the raw passion and gusto of her ‘4-Track Demos’ collection from some years back; in ‘Uh Huh Her”s lack of padding comes its direct hit: every track is vital, every note an inspired, intense, calm revelation.
In ‘The Slow Drug’, we hear PJ Harvey harmonising with herself, to a mere backdrop of just a couple of notes, while the folky proclamation of PJ’s ‘No Child Of Mine’ lasts but 70 seconds, perhaps defining this new batch quite succinctly – when the point’s made, don’t linger; just take a bow and make a quietly aggressive exit. In stripping herself of the comfort of fancy producers, multi-instrumentalists and – quite possibly – the mainstream half-fans that artists of her stature inevitably attract, Polly Jean Harvey has proven herself – via ‘Uh Huh Her’ – at her most intimate and revealing yet.
And it’s beautiful; quite beautiful.

She also played every instrument in the album — a first from Harvey since ”4-Track Demos” back in — with the exception of the final drum tracks, added by long-time collaborator Rob Ellis. It was released in May To support the release, Harvey toured for seven months. She performed in various European summer festivals such as Glastonbury and opened for Morrissey in a few dates. During the same tour she also performed the album’s unreleased title-track. It became Harvey’s highest charting album to date in the U.
Although it charted higher than ”Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea” in many territories, ”Uh Huh Her” failed to achieve its predecessor chart longevity and crossover interest. The album received largely positive reviews upon its release, although there was some criticism towards its production.

Well, have we got a good one for you! Dre , Busta Rhymes and Kelly Osbourne. The girls are about to embark on the Keep A Breast Tour aiming to educate women on breast cancer awareness and prevention hitting all major cities in the US starting October 8th.
I would say that Black and Blue was very electronic based, it was electronic influenced and made within a week and a half, two weeks. It was very like stream of consciousness while Nocturnes is very thought out, planned, and done in a studio with live musicians.
Even though she’s not quite as overt about it as Madonna or David Bowie , PJ Harvey remains one of rock’s expert chameleons. Her ever-changing sound keeps her music open to interpretation, and her seventh album, Uh Huh Her , is no different in that it departs from what came before it. Uh Huh Her — a title that can be pronounced and interpreted as an affirmation, a gasp, a sigh, or a laugh — is, as Harvey promised, darker and rawer than the manicured Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.
That album was a bid for the mainstream that Harvey said she made just to see if she could; this album sounds like she made it because she had to. However, despite the playful tantrum “Who the Fuck?

You wouldn’t know it to look at her but Polly Harvey is a terrific dancer. Her penchant for movement was most obviously illustrated by her album with John Parish, Dance Hall At Louse Point, which accompanied a contemporary piece of the same name by the Mark Bruce Dance Company in But her other albums have also kept up a kind of tango of rapprochement and retreat with the listening world.
Every commercial breakthrough or rich, melodic offering has given way to a more bloody-minded – or just bloody – follow-up. Harvey’s startling debut of , Dry, begat the bile-scorched Rid Of Me. So the writing was pretty much on the wall for its successor, Uh Huh Her, her sixth full solo album. Even the title is raw.
Guttural and enigmatic, Uh Huh Her barely qualifies as language. Harvey’s music, too, has retreated once again into primal simplicity on songs like the trebly ‘Who The Fuck?
